ASJF eCollege is the Federation’s professional learning platform for sports journalists and emerging media professionals. It combines journalism fundamentals with sports specialization, digital skills, ethics, safety and newsroom practice.
Learning areas
Training may cover sports reporting and writing, interviewing, verification and fact-checking, photography, radio and television, mobile journalism, multimedia storytelling, digital publishing, data skills, newsroom workflows and responsible use of artificial intelligence.
Sports specialization
Courses and workshops can include reporting on football, futsal, cricket, Olympic and other sports, with attention to rules, terminology, competition structures, athlete-centered reporting and the wider social context of sport.
Ethics and integrity
Participants are expected to apply ASJF standards on accuracy, independence, neutrality, conflicts of interest, corrections, source protection and responsible digital publishing. Integrity issues in sport and sports governance may also form part of the curriculum.
Safety and professional practice
Learning includes assignment planning, journalist safety, digital security, professional conduct, working with editors, deadline management and responsible coverage of sensitive or vulnerable people.
Teaching approach
Depending on the programme, learning may combine live online sessions, practical assignments, mentoring, newsroom exercises, guest lectures, peer review and independent study. Participation requirements and assessment methods are communicated for each course or cohort.
Eligibility and admission
Eligibility may vary by programme. ASJF may prioritize members, active journalists, journalism students or emerging professionals according to the objectives and available places of a particular course. Admission is not automatic and may require an application and verification process.
Certificates
Where a programme provides a certificate, participants must meet the stated attendance, assignment and assessment requirements. A certificate confirms completion of the relevant ASJF learning programme; it does not by itself constitute an academic degree or government-recognized professional qualification unless explicitly stated.
