ASJF Workshop for Sports Journalists: Social Media, AI and Sports Journalism Ethics
November 2026 | Coming Soon
The Afghanistan Sports Journalists Federation (ASJF) will organize a professional workshop in November 2026 focusing on three rapidly changing areas of modern sports journalism: social media, artificial intelligence (AI), and journalism ethics.
As digital platforms and AI technologies increasingly influence how sports news is discovered, produced, verified, distributed, and consumed, journalists need both new technical skills and strong professional standards.
The workshop will help Afghan sports journalists use emerging technologies effectively while protecting the fundamental principles of credible and responsible journalism.
Aim of the Workshop
The workshop aims to help sports journalists understand how to use social media and artificial intelligence as professional journalistic tools without compromising accuracy, independence, transparency, fairness, credibility, or journalistic ethics.
Participants will examine both the opportunities and the risks created by AI and rapidly changing digital platforms.
Main Topics
The programme is expected to include:
Social media as a sports journalism tool
Finding and developing sports stories through digital platforms
Building a credible professional presence on social media
Verification of social-media information, images, and videos
Recognizing misinformation and manipulated content
Understanding artificial intelligence in journalism
Using AI to support research, transcription, translation, organization, and other newsroom tasks
AI-assisted writing and its professional limitations
Fact-checking information generated with AI
AI-generated and manipulated images, audio, and video
Copyright, attribution, privacy, and source protection
Transparency when using AI in journalism
Maintaining human editorial responsibility
Journalism ethics in the age of social media and AI
Practical case studies from sports journalism
A Central Principle
The workshop will emphasize that AI should support journalists, not replace journalism.
Technology can help journalists work more efficiently, but responsibility for verification, editorial judgment, accuracy, fairness, and publication must remain with the journalist and the media organization.
Participants will therefore learn not only how to use AI, but also when not to use it.
Who Can Participate?
The workshop will be open to ASJF members, sports journalists, editors, reporters, photographers, broadcasters, commentators, digital journalists, and other sports media professionals.
Applications from young journalists and journalists seeking to strengthen their digital skills will be particularly encouraged.
Participation opportunities may be available for journalists working both inside Afghanistan and in exile.
How to Participate
Participation will be through registration and selection by ASJF.
Applicants will be asked to provide their professional information, media affiliation where applicable, journalism experience, and their interest in the workshop.
Because practical interaction will be an important part of the programme, the number of participants may be limited.
Exact dates, workshop format, trainers, programme, eligibility requirements, registration process, and application deadline will be announced soon.
